LIFE FROM THE LIVING ROOM

RESTORED

2 Samuel 9:1–13 NIV

1 David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

2 Now there was a servant of Saul’s household named Ziba. They summoned him to appear before David, and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” “At your service,” he replied.

3 The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.”

4 “Where is he?” the king asked. Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.”

5 So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.

6 When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor. David said, “Mephibosheth!” “At your service,” he replied.

7 “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”

8 Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?”

9 Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s steward, and said to him, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family.

10 You and your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the crops, so that your master’s grandson may be provided for. And Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table.” (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.)

11 Then Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do whatever my lord the king commands his servant to do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the king’s sons.

12 Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika, and all the members of Ziba’s household were servants of Mephibosheth.

13 And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.

2 Samuel 4:4 NIV

4 (Jonathan son of Saul had a son who was lame in both feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but as she hurried to leave, he fell and became disabled. His name was Mephibosheth.)

It’s God’s intention to restore us.

Just because you loose your position doesn’t mean you lose your value.

Some will return after this long isolation crippled.

2 Samuel 9:4 NIV

4 “Where is he?” the king asked. Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.”

Lo-Debar - No Pasture, No-thing / Nothing, No word.

Devastating events can  leave us crippled, in a barren place with nothing and no word.

( loss of job, divorce, loss of spouse, child.)

1. He ask for us.

Blind Bartimaeus called out verbally to the Lord, but God also hears our whispered cries for help.

Mark 10:49 NLT

49 When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, “Tell him to come here.” So they called the blind man. “Cheer up,” they said. “Come on, he’s calling you!”

2 Samuel 9:7 NIV

7 “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”

Mephibosheth regarded himself as having no value.

2. He desires to show kindness.

Isaiah 54:10 NLT

10 For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you.

Romans 2:4 The Message

4In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change.

3. He removes fear from our lives.

Genesis 3:10 NIV

10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

Genesis 3:21 NIV

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

Romans 8:15 NIV

15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

4. He restores what’s been lost.

These scriptures are the heart of God.

1 Samuel 9:7 “I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul”

Isaiah 61:7 NIV

7 Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.

Jeremiah 30:17 NIV

17 But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’

1 Peter 5:10 NIV

10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Joel 2:25 NIV

25 “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—

5. He invites us to dine at His table.

2 Samuel 9:7 “and you will always eat at my table.”

Revelation 3:20 NIV

20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

The King returns what we lost in hiding from him.

We have the privilege of provision at the King’s table.

We are received as son’s at the King’s table, with access to the King and fellowship with Him.
